gle/TelemetryStudio is a powerful software package, Windows® OS based, specifically designed for IRIG-106 ch.4 PCM stream decommutation, parameters extraction, data storage, real-time numerical and graphical display and data processing.

It is the result of 10 years/man work addressed to satisfy the specific needs of real-time telemetry data monitoring in the flight testing and aircrafts certification and more in general in the aerospace R&D applications.
It has been developed in close contact with specialists of this field and in line with their practical needs in the evaluation of results.

Thanks to its many options, it is the ideal platform for real-time monitoring of PCM data streams. Users can select numeric, bar-graph, time-history and cockpit-gages; associate them to telemetry parameters or to the virtual ones created using math engine.

The equation editor supports basic operations but, it can be extended with many advanced math functions, including exp & log, trigonometric, statistical, bit handling and logic (L&R Shift, And..), format conversion (i.e. IntToFloat) …; users can hence create nested formulas for specific calculation.
The PCM frame setup page enables the programming of the decom hardware, defining the global map parameter, including data rate, major and minor frame length, word size, synch words pattern and SFID properties.
Decoded parameters can be also real-time stored into file for post-processing purposes.

The basic license can be extended with various advanced features as IRIG/GPS time synchronization and data tagging, CVSD voice decoding and audio listening through the PC sound card, analog parameters reconstruction via DAC card, enhanced equation editor for virtual parameters, graphical and numerical parameters playback and much more.

The functionalities of the single user license can be expanded with the addition of one ore more client licenses for the creation of a scalable Ethernet-networked multi-user telemetry station. PCM data decom task is performed by the Server that distributes via Ethernet network the decoded and time tagged data to the various Client workstations.

GLE/TelemetryStudio can be adapted to the most deployed telemetry front-ends and data decom hardware. This software can be easily adapted for many of the most diffused telemetry decommutators for real time data display and storing

Technical Specifications 

gle/TelemetryStudio is structured in well defined sections. Its user friendly GUI guides the user through the setup for the configuration of the whole software aspects.

Frame Setup

In this section the main characteristics of the IRIG 106 stream can be defined, like frame format, word size, sync pattern and SFID properties.

Parameter Setup

Words selection and main characteristics of physical parameters, to be extracted from the PCM map, can be set in this section. It is mainly formed by a spreadsheet where each row corresponds to a selected channel with its all related properties. The addition of channels which differ only for start word in the minor frame can be done through the “Add Copies” button. Alternatively the names and the parameters position may be read directly from files generated by third party programs.

Map Viewer

This useful tool summarizes the entire PCM map structure and the parameters position as defined in the previous sections. It looks like a common worksheet where the placed parameters have different colors and can be easily identified through the zoom buttons.

Parameter linearization and EU conversion

It is possible to define, channel by channel, linear or polynomial conversion and to specify an engineering unit label for each of them. Calibration coefficients may also be read directly from a third party file.

Virtual Channels Setup

The equation editor allows to create a virtual channel, from one ore more physical parameters, simply by selecting one or more of them and editing or selecting the desired operators.

Nested formulas including both physical and virtual channels are also permitted.

Optionally, the basic equation editor can be expanded to support advanced operations, including: exp & log, trigonometric, statistical, bit handling and logic (L&R Shift, And..), format conversion (i.e. IntToFloat) and more.

Visualization Setup

Many different panels can be freely defined by the user. The standard available displays include, user fully definable, numeric, bar-graph, strip-charts, standard and cockpit gages.

The refresh rate of each visualization panel can be selected by the user.

Data storage

It is possible, to save selected parameters in standard file formats for the successive analysis with different software packages. Optionally the software supports real-time storage into file of the whole time tagged telemetry data for the further graphical/numerical parameters playback.
